Meet Luna

Yes...it happened. We are crazy and we got another dog!

Back in June, we stopped at an adoption event one evening after work - which we have done a few times before. Well, I saw her. And fell in love. Then the lady asked my husband Josh if he wanted to hold her and I knew he fell in love, too! We walked around the store weighing the pros and cons (because that's what responsible adults do nowadays) and tried to figure out if we were truly ready for another one. And then everything happened so fast. We filled out an application, were interviewed, and heard the great news: we were the proud new owners of a puppy! I mean...whattt.

We aren't sure what Luna is exactly, but she was listed as a Lab Blend (they knew mom was a Lab, dad could be a German Shepherd/Rottweiler/Hound?). Either way, she is so cute! I love her coloring - her chest reminds me of an Oreo cookie! We decided to name her Luna because let's face it, I'm a huge outer space nerd and Vega was named after a star, so it was only fitting we named Luna after the moon.

Girls, wine, and pups!

So now we are a family of four! Things at home are a little hectic with the new puppy and our 3-year-old Lab, Vega. Vega is adjusting to her new sister being around all the time.

And because I haven't posted in months, Vega was especially dashing in her 4th of July attire.

Can't wait to share more of the pup's adventures together!

Cheers to 2014

Happy New Year! I can't believe how quickly the year flew by - especially the last few months with the holidays. I always look forward to the new year - just the possibilities of what could happen are endless. New adventures, new beginnings, new opportunities, and maybe a new dog? Just kiddinggg...sort of! And I decided to scrap resolutions this year because I don't end up following through with any of them - so I'm going to focus on being a good wife and friend, a loving pup-mom, and pursuing more of my interests in my free time.

I've been so swamped that I haven't been able to post about my amazing Thanksgiving and Christmas. I also did a pretty terrible job about taking photos over the holidays - well, I guess that's just me living in the moment nowadays!

Thanksgiving was at our home for the first time ever. And boy - it was a lot of work! But it was so much fun hosting. Josh's mom, brother, and brother's girlfriend drove down from Maine to be with us. They are seriously the best! And we appreciate them making the long 10-hour trek down to Virginia, even though they were only in town for three days. Everyone helped out to make Thanksgiving dinner, each person tackling a different dish. My parents offered to make the turkey at their house and bring it over so that we could focus on everything else - which I seriously owe them because cooking a turkey kind of scares me! Before Josh's family left, we of course had to visit a few wineries - Barrel Oak Winery (my first time there) and another one of my favorites, The Winery at Bull Run.

Gorgeous view from Barrel Oak Winery.

Now Christmas was definitely a much needed vacation! We were able to spend 10 full days up north - which is such a luxury nowadays. Usually when we visit Maine, we are only there for a handful of days, so it was nice to be able to relax, enjoy ourselves, and not feel too rushed. I get to see my family anytime I want and I know how much of a sacrifice it is for Josh to only see his family 3-4 times a year. We definitely took advantage of our time there! Josh's mom had a lovely Christmas party at her house - so it was perfect to see everyone that was important to Josh and to us all in one place. And let's not forget about Josh's favorite sandwich shop, Amato's - we ordered from there pretty much every single day of our trip. He swears by their pickles.

New Year's Eve was very low-key this year - which is just how I like it! We went out to dinner with our friends, then hung out at home and watched the ball drop with our favorite furry human. Overall, we had such an amazing year! In 2013, we went to seven weddings, Josh traveled to India for work, and we celebrated our one year wedding anniversary. We are even more excited for what 2014 has to offer.

January is already starting to become crazy, but I am embracing all of the craziness with open arms. Josh and I started the Whole30 plan, which we wanted to do last year but it never matched up with our schedule. It will definitely be challenging, especially when it comes to social outings with the no alcohol (a girl needs her wine every now and then!) - and for me at least, the no dairy (obsessed with cheeseeeeee). Super Bowl will be the first day that we'll be able to enjoy an adult beverage - and hopefully the Patriots will be playing that day (bummed my Redskins didn't do too well this season - oh well, HAIL!).

Something that I am going to get done early this year and am so, so, so excited about is my office! We have a little bedroom upstairs that we haven't done anything with yet except paint - so it's going to be our/my office, or better yet - my craft room! Eeek! I am currently looking for a chair, bookcase, and some prints for the wall. Josh said he thinks that he'll never see me again once that room is done, and has already dubbed it as my "apartment." Can't wait to post my progress with the office as the next few weeks come along!

Cheers to 2014 and I hope everyone has a great start to this beautiful new year!

Gift Ideas for Him and Her

Friday, December 6, 2013

I absolutely love gift giving. Love! Especially when it's a gift that I know the person (or dog!) will be excited about. And even more than that, I am (slightly) obsessed with gift wrapping. I get it from my mom! She has always been crazy about wrapping paper, tags, ribbons, bows - you name it. So this craziness of all things paper has trickled down to me and my sister. Still to this day, my mom wraps and packages gifts so perfectly - always paired with a handwritten card. Everyone says my handwriting is nice, wait till you see my mom's! She has even submitted an application to the gift wrap center at the mall (she works full time as a nurse).

So, with the holidays just around the corner, I wanted to put a list together of some of my favorite gift ideas for him and her. Many of these ideas are from my favorite stores - Anthropologie, J.Crew, and Ruche to name a few. These would even work for birthdays, anniversaries, special occasions - not just for Christmas!

Every year, I tell myself that I will start shopping early so that I can relax and enjoy December. Well, that didn't happen this year! I'm about halfway done with shopping, so I'm hoping that I can cross everything off the list this weekend.

Hope you all have a merry last few weeks picking out gifts for all of your loved ones!

My favorite picks for him include the Clarks Bushacre Chukka Boot (Josh swears by these), Chanel Bleu de Chanel Cologne, Vintage Bookshelf Scrabble, and Sphere Ice Molds (perfect for those whiskey lovers). A great stocking stuffer for the working man is the The Laundress Stain Bar - helps to get those stubborn stains off their shirt collars!

Celebrating One Year

Friday, October 11, 2013

I still can't get over that I am married and that Josh is my husband. Or just saying "husband." And even though nothing day-to-day has really changed in our relationship, there's just something about being married that makes my heart a little happy. It's definitely the best. Being married to Josh is the best. And with this year being pretty hectic for the both of us - a nice weekend getaway was exactly what we needed. Our anniversary would also be the first weekend we've gone out of town alone since our honeymoon!

We had talked awhile back about taking off a few days of work and maybe going somewhere like Nashville (I've been dying to go!)...aaand then our anniversary kind of snuck up on us out of nowhere. So instead, we decided to do something that was within a few hours from where we lived. Josh ended up finding a cute country hotel in Williamsburg called Wedmore Place - that also happened to be right next door to a winery!

We had an amazing time celebrating! I loved visiting the little shops in downtown Williamsburg and eating at the local restaurants. Williamsburg is very dog-friendly, too - I was slightly regretting we didn't bring our furry family member with us!

Josh and I at the Williamsburg Winery.

The best part of our weekend though was our anniversary dinner back home at Trummer's on Main. Josh and I love, love, love trying new restaurants - and this by far, was the one of the best meals we've ever had. Not to mention the best service we've ever had. They took the time to make our evening so special - everyone (hostess, waiter, bus boy, and wine server) greeting us a happy anniversary, our secluded and intimate dinner seating, and a complimentary dessert at the end of the night.

Arugula salad and fried risotto. Pan-seared grouper in a port and ginger sauce. Braised short ribs over red pepper polenta.

Celebrating one year!

And the rest of our night was perfect. We spent it going through our wedding album, exchanging gifts, and snuggling with our pup. My parents even picked up Georgetown cupcakes for us while we were out of town - including some of the same flavors we had from our wedding day!

Josh is the best thing that's ever happened to me (besides Vega, of course). I don't think I can pick just one thing that I love most about Josh - but if I had to, I'd probably say his charm. He's so easy to get along with and talk to, and anyone that meets him for the first time instantly love him. Or maybe it's just those blue eyes?

Looking back, I would've never imagined that a guy that I met at a party in college would one day be the man I marry. We loved every crazy little thing about our first year and can't wait for all of the adventures that year two has in store for us!

Photos / Wedding

Monday, September 23, 2013

This past weekend, Josh and I celebrated our one year anniversary! We can't believe how quickly this past year has gone by. It feels just like yesterday we were engaged! 2013 so far has been crazy for the both of us - but we've enjoyed every single minute of it and can't wait for what year two has in store for us! We spent the evening of our anniversary going through all of our favorite photos, sampling a few bites of our year-old wedding cake (yum?), and reflecting back on the awesomeness that was our wedding day.
